Live Crumb Free!
The No Crumbs concept was born out of a conversation with a dear friend of mine. She had been, as many of us have, through a rough break-up, and through sound-boarding with others, realized that she had been settling for crumbs in her life. The conversation grew, and the No Crumbs movement was set forth.
Accepting crumbs in our lives whether it be from others, or more importantly from ourselves, can have dire effects on our lives. But when we are aware of potential crumbs and can identify them before we welcome them into our lives, we can sweep them away and take back control. No Crumbs is simply about not settling for less than we initially wanted for ourselves, and our lives. It is about standing up, and showing up for ourselves with intention. Purposely doing our diligence to live a life of our choosing, understanding our worth and celebrating who we are by living a No Crumbs lifestyle.
What is a crumb? By definition, a crumb is “A small fragment of bread”, but also basically means, “A very small amount of something”.
So when it comes to accepting crumbs in your life, you are accepting a very small amount of what you want. If translated in terms of relationships, you are accepting a small amount of the relationship that you want. If the relationship is producing abuse, gas-lighting, jealousy, control, debasing critique, or blame, you are taking less than what you want, and less than you deserve. All of which leads to un-fulfillment and can bleed into other areas of life.
We can also accept crumbs in our professional life. If we are unhappy with our jobs, or being unappreciated and are fearful of taking a step forward to obtain the career that we want, we are accepting crumbs. Or if we want to go back to school, but feel that it would be too hard, or that we are too old, this is accepting self-inflicted crumbs. These beliefs are the most dangerous, because they become part of our belief system, and once imbedded, are challenging to redirect. The belief that we are not worthy, or less than, is the ultimate crumb. We need to get a less-en in stirring us away from thinking that we are less-than, and towards a No Crumbs life!

I'm Denise Ortuno MSW, CLC, and have always believed in the power of life coaching. It adheres to the notion that we are all here to help one another navigate through this life the best that we can, and reach are fullest potential of the humans that we were meant to be. Like those I serve, I too have accepted crumbs in my life, from others who I have allowed in, and most painfully from myself. To say that I have experienced teachable moments from these crumbs, would be a glaring understatement.
The most poignant crumb that I accepted over the years, was that of not being good enough to succeed and truly reach the full potential in my life. These are the crumbs that I accepted, and from that acceptance, incorporated them into my crumby belief in myself. I lacked the support of others to reach the goal I had of becoming a life coach. It was not until years later that I realized, that the only real support I needed would come from myself.
So, in 2017, I decided to go back to school, and enhance my goals of life coaching, and eventually becoming a therapist. At 48, I had the looming challenge and stigma of being a mature in age, adult student. However, I was determined, and with the zeal of an 18 year old fresh out of high school, I leaped over societal ageism and forged ahead on my academic journey. I received my A.A. in Psychology from a local community college in my area, then transferred to California State University, San Bernardino where I graduated cum laude with my B.A. in Psychology. I continued on as a grad student, returning to my alma mater to obtain a Master of Social Work degree (MSW). During my studies at the university, I also became a certified life coach (CLC) through Life Purpose Institute, fulfilling my long time goal.
Now working as a life coach, I am able to partner with clients who want to obtain the life that they want, free from the crumbs that have weighed them down throughout their lives. I have created tools that are beneficial to clients, and I am dedicated in helping each client with customized interventions to help them reach their goals of living without crumbs, and living the life that they choose. It is through the training that I have received through my academics, as well as my life experience, which provides me with a unique perspective as a life coach.
Personally, I have combated, and eradicated many crumbs in my life. But crumbs can creep in when least expected, and I know that I will have to stay vigilant, and there are still some lingering crumbs that I need to sweep away. It is an on-going process, as we are always expanding and growing.
That is what we do as humans, there is no finish line, and that is the beauty of life. If we are lucky, we have another day to capture our dreams and live our best life. A life that is crumb free.
